I asked on Twitter the other day, if “Rickrolling” was reaching an inflection point of popularity. I have been Rickrolled three times in the past couple of weeks.
I’m thinking I’m correct, as the New York Times has written up the meme. Also, some Google Trends data supports it:
Well, that’s more of a hammock than a hockey stick, but it’s growth nonetheless…
That reminds me of when it happened here.
Brian you need to expand your query, because it actually seems to be very much on the increase but also the vernacular is changing. The trend appears to have kicked off mid April 2007, and while the terms “rick roll” & “rickroll” are still very popular “rick rolling” & “rickrolling” are now also on the ascendent as a new way of describing the trend. “rick roll” is the most popular way people search for it http://tinyurl.com/yuqvmh
ps. Would be nice if Google trends had an additional function so you could combine and bunch of phrases into one graph
pps. Are you going to attend the Search Marketing World event in Dublin next week?
teddie, I’m based in Mountain View again so I’m not going to the Dublin event. No doubt some esteemed peers will be there.
Send them my way. Also I have some time on the Friday morning if they want to hand out an invite and discuss organic search at the Paddyplex
